Patti and Lola- a home newborn session
One Tuesday morning, stuck in traffic on my way from Saikung to Sai Ying Pun. I arrived later than the time set and that, as usual, made me nervous. Door opened on a nice comfy apartment where Karen and Matt were waiting. I see them and I take a sigh of relief. In spite of just giving birth to two adorable baby girls they act like the chillest most relaxed parents I have seen. They don’t seem to be bothered by my delay or if they are, they politely don’t show it. Patti is awake and Lola asleep (or the opposite can’t remember). I look at them and think they’re the cutest thing I have seen lately. I start setting up, test the light on one of them lying there in their adorable yellow romper. Then I ask can we put some music on?
Music really sets the tone of the shoot. I am quickly in my flow, my own zone of creating. Everything is calm, quiet. I change roll after roll and they look like seasoned models. It’s in moments like this that I realize how lucky I am to get to witness this. The birth of a new family, a young couple finding their way as parents. I see the uncertainty, the wonder and the awe. All my clients hold a special place in my heart but with some people the connection is almost instant and palpable and makes everything so much easier.
On my way out I watch Karen tenderly looking at one of her girls, she comments how about she really doesn’t have much time for anything else at the moment. I say don’t worry soon the baby fog will dissipate and it will look like you can get a bit of life back. Yet, I still tell her, these moment go by way too quickly and they will grow in a heartbeat. “Try to enjoy them while you’re here”. She smiles, I bet she knows what I mean.
